IWC Big Pilot's Watch Racing Works Antworten

IWC Schaffhausen IWC Racing Works pays homage to motorsport with a limited edition Large Pilot's Watch

In recognition of its passion for motorsport, IWC Schaffhausen presents a racing-inspired version of the iconic large pilot's watch

The IWC Big Pilot's Watch Racing Works (Ref. IW501019) pays homage to its long ties to motorsport. Following its partnership with Mercedes-AMG in 2004, the Swiss luxury watchmaker also became the Official Engineering Partner of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1™ Team in 2013. IWC even established its own classic racing team, IWC Racing, in 2018.

"Racing and engineering are integral parts of IWC's DNA. We are therefore delighted to present a racing-inspired large pilot's watch - one of our most iconic models - the IWC IWC Motorsports. This limited edition captivates with its grade 5 titanium case and bold, sporty design with an understated blue dial," said IWC CEO Christopher Granger-Hull (Christoph Grainger-Herr) explained.

IWC iconic material
The case, crown and caseback of the IWC Racing Works Large Pilot's Watch are made of grade 5 titanium. IWC pioneered titanium in watchmaking in the 1980s when the company launched its first wristwatch with a titanium case and bracelet. Over the years, IWC has continued to expand the use of this light and strong metal. Grade 5 titanium is about 45% lighter than steel and very strong. Due to its high strength-to-density ratio, it is widely used in motorsports to manufacture components for high-performance engines. Other essential characteristics of titanium for watches are its skin-friendliness and attractive matte gray color. The titanium case back is engraved with the IWC Racing Works logo.

The blue dial with soft white numerals complements the unique technical look of the 46.2mm titanium case. The date display is at "6 o'clock" and the power reserve display is at "3 o'clock". Luminescent hour markers and hands ensure optimum legibility. The embossed structure on the blue calfskin strap underscores the sporty appeal of this timepiece.

performance-focused movement
The IWC Racing Works Large Pilot's Watch is powered by the IWC-manufactured caliber 52110. This automatic movement has been designed with a strong focus on performance and reliability. The Pellaton two-way winding system provides a power reserve of up to 7 days in two barrels. Components subject to particularly high stress are made of virtually wear-free zirconia ceramic. The soft iron inner case effectively protects the movement from magnetic fields.

Motorsports at the Flagship Boutique
IWC's passion for motorsports can be experienced in its boutiques in Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates and China. As the global home of the IWC Motorsport Team, the Zurich boutique commemorates the early days of motorsport. The visual centerpiece is the iconic Mercedes-Benz 300 SL "Gullwing", which the IWC racing team has competed in selected classic races on numerous occasions. The IWC boutique in The Dubai Mall is themed around the brand's long-term partnership with the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 team. The entrance area features an actual F1 car, once driven by IWC brand ambassador Lewis Hamilton. In the largest IWC flagship boutique in Shanghai, the flying car of IWC partner Airspeeder demonstrates its passion for engineering, innovation and groundbreaking technological solutions for future mobility.
