At Baselworld 2012, Zenith introduced a behemoth, the Pilot Montre d'Aéronef Type 20. The model is 57.5mm in diameter and replicates many of the design elements found on the company's earlier pilot's watches, including timepieces cherished by Blériot. Plump numerals, cathedral hands and an onion-shaped crown infuse this watch with a charming nostalgia.
In the years that followed, case sizes were reduced, new complications were released, and alternative case materials including bronze were introduced.
Recently, the Swiss company launched a new pilot watch, the Zenith Pilot Type 20 Silver Chronograph. Featuring a 45mm case, this watch is made of sterling silver, which is more durable than its 2012 predecessor. The dual-composite dial features a brushed riveted design that resembles the fuselage of an airplane of yesteryear. This model is limited to 250 pieces and bears the Zenith flight instrument logo. Oh, what about sports you might ask? Well, its El Primero 4069 automatic movement, always eager to be in the limelight.
Revisiting its iconic and time-honored aviator aesthetic while taking inspiration from vintage aircraft designs, Zenith presents the Pilot 20 Chronograph Silver, a striking and richly detailed aviation-themed chronograph in Crafted in precious sterling silver, this is a first for a Zenith pilot chronograph.
The limited edition Pilot Type 20 Chronograph Silver recalls Zenith’s unique pedigree in aviation timepieces, spanning over a century, with early 20th century aviation pioneers, notably Louis Bleriot and His History - Crossing the English Channel in 1909. The 45mm case is made of sterling silver, taking more immediate visual inspiration from historic aircraft. Like the fuselage of an airplane, the rivet details on the silver dial resemble metal panels, and the erratic brushed surface brings out the raw beauty of the metal. For maximum legibility at all times, the iconic aviator oversized Arabic hour markers and "cathedral" hands are painted with white luminous paint.
